About Shattering Glass

Shattering Glass, a non-profit founded on International Women’s Day 2021, is dedicated to building collective action to advance the social, emotional and economic interests of women and girls, by combatting discrimination and bias and achieving gender equity and equality.

 

We have a two-pronged approach: communication and movement-building; and education and direct advocacy. The first prong entails research, publishing and social media efforts. The second prong includes meetings with leadership and influencers within corporations, trade associations, and other employers to present problems identified and solutions developed.

Position Description

Are you a tech-savvy, social media lover who is enjoys writing and is excited to roll up your sleeves and learn about all things related to the fight for gender equality? Then this is the internship for you! Shattering Glass seeks college students, current graduate students, or recent college graduates who are interested in serving as a Communications Intern. Communications Interns will work directly with the Executive Director and will have the opportunity to learn more about the day-to-day operations of a national non-profit women’s rights organization, including participating on calls with elected officials, professional associations, and partner organizations.

Specific Responsibilities

Successful Shattering Glass interns will have their finger on the pulse of social media and digital outreach. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Monitor news outlets for stories covering issues related to gender equality and our work

• Conduct research and write blogs and op-eds on a variety of topics related to gender equality

• Assist with the planning and evaluation of communication activities

• Develop and implement social media campaigns to spread the word and connect with our allies and supporters, which includes regularly generating posts for Shattering Glass social media platform

• Manage our social media calendar and social media accounts and establish new social media platforms

• Assist with media monitoring efforts, metrics collection, and reporting

• Assist with email marketing and website management

• Help boost traffic on the Shattering Glass website and blog

• Pull and interpret analytics on social media performance

• Primary focus will be on Shattering Glass's #PublishTheERA Campaign.

Qualifications

• Strong interest in learning about the issues and joining the fight for gender equality

• Excellent writing and research skills

• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills

• Strong attention to detail and accuracy

• A self-starter and team-player who is comfortable adapting between self-motivated and collaborative work

• Ability to work effectively both as a team member and independently

• Ability to handle multiple priorities effectively

• Familiarity with social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn)

Location and Hours

Shattering Glass is based in Washington, DC, but this position is 100% remote. A personal computer is required. The internship will start at a mutually agreed upon date and may continue further depending on mutual interest and satisfactory performance. A minimum of 15-20 hours per week is required, but work arrangements are flexible.
